More Prototyping

Here are some images of my initial prototypes for the over the door hook. As you can see I have played about with the sape of the face that will show on the front of the door. I also tried out different lengths of the front and back faces to see which ones a) looked best and b) would hold and stay in place the best. Just now I feel that the one which is the same siza front and back will be best.

Over the door Hanging Device

The over the door hanger as seen in the images above has given me inspiration with regards to fixing mechanisms for fixing the straps securely in place over the door. I plan to take inspiration from these and design something that uses the same principles with regards to hanging and weight bearing for a simple yet practical device. Also the objects simple form would make it an easy object to use. This would also give me free reign with regards to shape and form to some extent as long as it still functioned as it was meant to. The only problem I may have would be with the material this would be made from as it could only be 2mm thick maximum to still fit between the door and the frame.

One strap of two??

After initial prototyping I started to think about the straps of the product and whether it really needs to have two. As one strap or pannel could look more aesthetically pleasing to the eye and would also allow more surface area for connecting the containers to.

But after more thoughts about this as well as some crude visualisation with a sheet of board I realised that by only having one strap it would have to be quite a thick strap which would mean that more of it would be on show. And with the main idea of the strap being that it is almost invisible by having one would make it very obvious! So I have now scrapped the idea of one strap or pannel and have eneded up going back to my initial idea of having the two straps.

Design Report Part 2

Well the design report has been plodding along and we are almost at the finish line for the hand in for the 2nd half of the dreaded dissertation.

Overall I am quite pleased with reards to how I have done so far in the first half and have continued faith that this half will be equally as good. Jean has been very helpful with regards to the financial side of things and has helped encourage me that what I am doing is a good choice of project and also that my final idea is a very viable one and that it could posibly go on to be a big seller with the way things are going in the market place for recycling products just now with the new regulations that have been put in place by our local governments and councils to reduce the amount of general waste we send to landfill.

I will be glad once this second part is over as it means that I can solely concentrate on my studio work.

The opening to a new generation of recycling product

Above are a few renders done for me by Chris Labrooy on of Geoff's mates who is a professional CAD renderer and makes his living from doing this all day long. I personally think that these images are very sweet and I would like to give this a go myself when the times come round to CAD modelling etc.

The top image is also the one I chose to use for my Degree Show Catalogue.
